Silence on set!

We decided to begin testing out a few shots today to see how they look visually on camera. We experimented with shots that were a bit risky to see if we could replicate what was in our heads and changed or adjusted them accordingly. Obviously we were filming these short clips in school and not at our final set locations so we could not copy the exact conditions in terms of lighting, miss en scene, actors etc.

As a result we had to use unconventional methods to try and mirror how the shots would look e.g. in one shot during the flashback scene the main character is outside and the natural wind or breeze will affect the movement of her hair which we want for the fantasy sequence. To achieve this we practised by using a booklet and waving it to generate a gust of air towards the character and this gave us a very good idea of what angles to use to best capture the wind movement when we come to filming. this just allowed us to confirm the visual that we wanted which we hope to recreate on filming day. However, we have no control over the natural elements: the day of filming could be extremely windy to the point where it ruins the shot with how strong it is pr there could be no wind or breeze at all in which case we will have to do what we did when we were experimenting (improvising with what we have)

We also experimented with other shots that were not necessarily difficult, but shots that we had yet to finalised details on e.g. there is a fantasy shot of the two characters holding hands however we were unsure of whether we wanted this shot to be taken from behind or from the front. We are planning to discuss this shot further as it is significant and requires time and thought into its execution but we took a shot from behind and in front so we have those options to look at tomorrow and see which is most visually appealing. This will be recreated on the day of filming with hopefully similar results as there is not much that could go wrong with this shot. We are planning to experiment further with this shot as we are unsure on the movement of these characters during this shot.

Another key shot that we practised today was a side profile of the character's face which focused and put emphasis on the eye and on the day of shooting will also feature the train passing by in the background. Today we tried this shot which allowed us to picture the movement of the train in the background and it also allowed us to become familiar with different features on the new camera (adjusting the focus, lens etc). On filming day, this shot will feature Ribh.
