The Review Photoshoot

I decided to lay out the photos from the magazine review photoshoot in a slideshow design using Emaze as a way to practise with the software before I use it in the later stages of my upcoming evaluation.

Movie review research

Image
As part of the final package of my final media product, I need to design a magazine review along with the poster to complete the final submission of my work. Before I do this however, I decided to research a number of magazine reviews of films from various genres to obtain ideas in relation to layout and what content is essential. It was advised to me that I lay my review out as a double page spread with one page being text based and the other consisting of a photo taking specifically for the review (see my previous post on the Magazine Review Photoshoot). The layout was a particular area of focus in my research as my review needs to be a double page spread and be executed to a professional standard like the examples shown here. To achieve this specific layout, we used Adobe InDesign's software as it gave us more creative options than Adobe Photoshop provides. The software was initially difficult to operate but after watching a number of step by step tutorials I grew more co...

Film Board Choice

As a group we all unanimously agreed that IFB (Irish Film Board) would suit our film best as we had to decide on which film company's title we would be including at the beginning of our film. The Irish influences in our film (the original idea came from an Irish short story, Windy Night) correlate well with IFB's history of the distribution of Irish films as well as the fact that they have a large selection of shorts and thriller films including The First Wave and The Last Days of Peter Bergmann.

Poster Drafts

The Editing Process The editing program we used in the editing process was Adobe Photoshop on a Mac computer. Our lack of budgeting made the editing process difficult as we had to resort to using a 7 day free trail which we used to make changes and create our final poster design (see below). We easily found a clean and neat template online to lay over the poster for the title and credits. We increased the saturation of the image to bring out and emphasise the red background of the clock which is another important motif in the film. Sharpening the image as well as blurring and darkening the left side of clock with an application of shadows made the red stand even in an even more striking and thrilling way which was our goal for the poster. The Clock When brainstorming visual ideas for the face or look of our poster, we decided to use the actual clock used in the film as the main image for the poster as it gives the audience and indicate to a major motif of the film. Planning audience feedback

In relation to audience feedback, we wanted to gather responses that are representative in terms of age and gender in order to collect a variety of unbiased opinions. To achieve this, I plan on showing our completed poster and holding a private screening with a number of individuals of different ages and genders. I plan to show the film to two viewers aged between 15-25 (which is our target audience) one will be male and one will be female, two viewers aged 26-40 one male and one female and two more audience members aged 41-70 again one male and one female. After all six viewers have watched the film I hope to ask the following questions and make notes on their responses: 1) What were your expectations for the film? From this I hope to gather of an understanding of how the early indications of the film shaped the audiences expectations and if they were disappointed or pleasantly surprised with the plot twist that defies their expectations. 2) What genre would you associate with this...
