Inspirations

Every idea and every short film came from somewhere or was inspired by something. Our coursework film idea had a number of sources of inspiration from a range of different sources of entertainment. The primary source of inspiration came from the irish short story by Peigi Rose 'Windy Night' is the english translation of the story title. The story details a dark setting in which a man is alone missing his significant other during a windy night. This concept was a major source of inspiration for us and was the basis of our idea. We decided to cut the wind effects and change the story to portray the man as a stalker however Windy Night gave us the idea of a silent romantic story and we added our own twist. The impression we got from Windy Night was that a number of scenes would focus on the use of heavy shadowing and dark colour themes which we are planning to incorporate this into our coursework.

Another source of inspiration was the romantic film 97%. It follows a man who has found a 97% romantic match nearby on an online app and must find his match before his train reaches the end of the line. The idea of this man almost comedically following someone and he doesn't know who he is following was an intriguing idea as it added an element of mystery to the romance. Who is this mysterious match? The man throughout the film follows many people who he mistakenly thinks is his match and makes the mistake of ignoring a woman sitting nearby who is revealed to be his match. At one point the man follows someone off the train and onto the platform and comedically she runs into the arms of someone else. This particular scene was inspiring for us as we felt it would work well with our plot and add the twist that we were looking for. We took out the funny, lighthearted side of it out and changed it to suit out plot and characters so that it has a more disappointing and serious tone to it. Through this film we also witnessed how a silent romance film was achieved - connections established through facial expressions. This is another critical aspect of our film and we looked at this film for details of how to achieve this
